The accessibility target
The website is designed towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This is a design and testing target, not a claim of certification or an independent accessibility audit.
Different browsers, devices and assistive technologies can behave differently. Automated checks help identify some issues, but they cannot establish that every task works for every reader.
Keyboard and screen-reader navigation
- Use Tab and Shift + Tab to move through links and controls, and Enter or Space as appropriate to activate them.
- The first “Skip to content” link moves past the repeated navigation.
- Press / outside a text field to open the library search.
- Use the labelled close button or Escape to close a guide’s source drawer. Focus returns to the control that opened it.
- Headings, form labels and landmark regions identify the page structure. Dynamic results use status announcements where appropriate.
Motion, colour and text
The animation respects the device’s reduced-motion preference. You can enable that preference in your operating system or browser. Essential explanations remain available when motion is reduced.
The theme button switches between light and dark reading surfaces. Use browser zoom or text enlargement to choose a comfortable size. Meaning is expressed through text and labels as well as colour; a coloured route is not the only way to identify a procedure.
Alternatives to diagrams
The atlas offers a text view, and procedure links remain available alongside the visual map. Timeline stages have written explanations. Distribution examples state the fictional figures, steps and assumptions in text.
Comparison tables can be scrolled horizontally on a narrow screen when their columns need more room. Individual guides offer a less dense way to read the same underlying information.
JavaScript and printing
Substantive guide text, source references and ordinary navigation are available without JavaScript. Search, saved preferences and the interactive tools use JavaScript. If a browser blocks local storage, you can continue reading and use ordinary bookmarks.
The print controls provide a simplified layout, including source and review information. Your browser may also offer “Save as PDF”. For a guide’s technical details, expand the relevant sections before using the browser’s own print command.
External material
Linked websites and documents are controlled by their publishers. Their accessibility, file formats and sign-in requirements can differ from this resource. Prefer the publisher’s HTML version when a PDF is difficult to use, where one is available.
